PARIS AND BRITNEY HURT BARRACK!

No, B+B, not a new S&M sex tape but, rather, a significant political fact from this past week: THE "OBAMA/PARIS HILTON/BRITNEY SPEARS/CELEBRITY" TV COMMERCIAL HURT YOBAMA - AND DAMAGED HIM AS BADLY AS ANY SINGLE TV SPOT HAS IN MODERN U.S. POLITICAL HISTORY.

In my 25+ years in national politics & media, only a few times has there been a TV ad with the potential to change the dynamic of the campaign - and this is one of them.

The reason is that THIS ATACK CUTS TO THE HEART OF OBAMA'S GREATEST VULNERABILITY: HIS INEXPERIENCE, ARROGANCE, CELEBRITY.

Of the voters who do not like or have doubts about Obama, this ad hits the sweet spot of their anxities about him. This ad has the result of being clever, visually compelling, and having that precious "AH HA!" quality, whereby viewers say "EXACTLY!"

This ad - and general line of attack - places into accessible words and pictures the essence of the most effective criticism of Obama.

And it hurt, and it shows: The Obama forces are out in full-force on the weekend talk shows damning the ad as "racist". But the McCain forces are fighting back, and effectively.

Because this ad/tactic worked, expect to see a lot more of it, starting right now.

McCAIN EVIDENTLY HAS RECOGNIZED THAT HE CAN WIN THIS FIGHT ONLY BY CREATING SERIOUS DOUBTS ABOUT OBAMA.

IF HE DRIVES UP OBAMA'S NEGATIVES, HE CAN WIN.

THESE NEXT FEW PRE-DEM-CONVENTION WEEKS WILL BE CRUCIAL TO McCAIN'S ATTACK STRATEGY.

AS SUCH, THESE NEXT FEW WEEKS WILL LIKELY FEATURE THE KEY PUNCHES AND COUNTER-PUNCHES THAT WILL DETERMINE THE OUTCOME OF THIS RACE.
