Were Sarah Palin a broadway show she'd be My Fair Lady, and you couldn't get a ticket - she would, after her opening night, be Sold Out.

Were John McCain a broadway show he'd be Death of a Salesman, and you couldn't get a ticket - because, after his opening night, he would be Closed.

John McCain's speech was poorly written, poorly delivered and largely poorly received - a snoozer, a bore, a bomb, REM TV.
Had it not been for the Enthusiasm Momentum carried over from Palin's speech, all in that convention hall would have in a coma. (And P.S.: the wild - virtually only - appaluse, in the final 60 seconds, was obviously choreographed in advance - it had Noting to do with what McCain was saying. Watch the clip; it is painful.)

Imagine if now, with the Palin Convention behind them, all they had to offer was The John McCain Show? The only way to sell it would be "Survivor 2008: Can McCain Tread Water for 61 Days and Live?"

Republicans must know this.

NOW see how inspired - and necessary - a pick was Sarah Palin?

She is a Life-Preserver for McCain.
The question is whether she can be a Life-Saver.

THE CLINTON CONUNDRUM

The Sarah Palin nuclear Fall-out extends even to the Clintons.

Operating under the ironclad assumption that Hillary has already taken aim at 2012, what does she do?

B.P. (Before Palin), Clinton was preparing to sabotage Obama, her surest way to the 2012 Dem nomination.

But now, an Obama loss puts Sarah Palin, in theory, in the White House for up to 16 years.

Conversely, if Hillary works to help Obama win, then she must line up again, in theory, matched directly against a prospective Sarah Palin presidential candidacy in 2012.

So what's a Lady Socialist to do?

My guess: stick with plotting an Obama loss, providing Clinton her quickest potential route to another presidential candidacy.

THREE FACTORS THAT MATTER

(1) The principal reason the delegates - and others of us patriotic - are so jazzed by last night's convention events is that, as Pat Buchanan said on MSDNC, "WE NOW HAVE ONE OF OUR OWN UP THERE."

Plus: those in-Obama's-face speeches by Mitt, Rudy and Sarah were DEEPLY PARTISAN, ATTACKING OBAMA/BASIC LIBERAL PREMISES, AND DEFENDING CONSERVATIVE VALUES.

Its about time.

(2) As presented here one week ago...As we enjoy Sarah Palin, be aware of one great irony: IT IS OBAMA HIMSELF (by failing to choose Hillary) WHO MADE SARAH PALIN POSSIBLE.
OBAMA PICKED SARAH PALIN - and now is threatened by his own hand.

(3) The left-wing media (i.e. all of it but talk radio) have declared all-out Nuclear War on the Repubs and McCain ticket.
THERE ARE NO MORE RULES OF MEDIA ENGAGEMENT: THE NEW STANDARD OF JOURNALISM IS DEVOID OF OBJECTIVITY...THE NEW NEWS STANDARD IS MSNBC (i.e. no standard).

SARAH OR MITT?.

Here's one thing about Sarah Palin I don't like so much.
And, if you are a Mitt Romney fan, as I am, you won't like it either.

It kills me to think this, let alone have to talk about it, but here it is:
With the overnight emergence of Sarah Palin as a conservative darling, who is now likely to be the favorite for the next Republican nomination, Mitt or Sarah?

Consider: if McCain wins, Sarah Palin is Vice President, for one or two terms. Is it not logical when the big seat opens up, she will go for it? Would she not by definition be the favorite?

If McCain loses, Sarah Palin is not Vice President - but she becomes, almost automatically, a 2012 favorite, right?

Point being, Win or Lose, is not Sarah Palin likely to be in a position - at least equal to Mitt - to claim "favorite" status for the next Republican campaign?

No Question: The Question for us Mitt loyalists is just how profoundly will McCain's selection of Sarah Palin impact our guy's national political stock?

SARAH PALIN'S OPENING NIGHT

First thing First: as a prominent show business agent said in reviewing Sarah Palin's performance Wednesday evening, "SHE CRUSHED!"
And truly she did.

But even more enjoyable than Palin's mastery of stage last night was the hilarious glumness and nastiness of the reactions by virtually all the "journalists" on TV: Keith Olberwellian, Chrissy Matthews, Gene Obama Robertson, Rachel Mad-Ow, et. al. all looked and sounded like children who had just lost their best friend.
And maybe they have: little Barack.

"SHE WAS MEAN!"
"SHE WAS NASTY!"
"SHE WAS SARCASTIC!"
"SHE WAS NEGATIVE!"

Exactly.

Translation: she was EFFECTIVE.

Sarah Palin obviously has Democrats scared to death - the most compelling evidence she was a good choice.

However...now comes the hard part: Sarah Palin must now face the Media Assasins without a script, teleprompter, and protection. She will be out there on her own, cross-examined by hardened media killers - every one of whom is seeking a career-making opportunity to be the one who brings her down in flames.

This is why it will take circa 10 days more to know how Sarah Palin truly plays: the first round of post-convention polling, plus her first round of full-contact scrimmages with her sworn blood enemies (MSNBC, CNN, Boston Globe, NY Times, Wash Post, CBS, ABC, et. al.)

That said though, Sarah Palin's Opening Night was a Smash...in the face of Democrats.

There has never, Never, in the history of American politics, been a national smear campaign like that now being run against Governor Sarah Palin by the Barack Obama campaign and others of the American Communist Movement.

The latest and most appalling form this has taken is the assertion by the Obama campaign that "Sarah Pain supported a Nazi Sympathizer".

The "Nazi Sympathizer" in question is, evidently, political icon/two-time candidate for President of the United States/author/journalist Patrick J. Buchanan (* full disclosure: proudly, a good friend and former client of mine).

As Mr. Buchanan's most visible work of the moment is a senior on-air political analyst for MSNBC, the pressing question is:

DOES MSNBC EMPLOY AN ON-AIR NAZI SYMPATHIZER?
CHRIS MATTHEWS AND KEITH OLBERMAN HAVE A NAZI SYMPATHIZER ON THEIR PROGRAMS EVERY NIGHT?

IF NOT, IS NOT MSNBC OBLIGATED OUT OF BASIC DECENCY TO STATE PAT BUCHANAN IS NOT SO?

Sensing this, McCain - already well established as Maverick (pre-Change Change), brings onto the stage Sarah Palin, a reformer, a Mom, a hunter, a real Feminist.
Everything about McCain-Palin says Change, as in "Reform".
Obama stills says Change, as in "Revolution".
McCain, co-opting Change - right our from under Obama's turned-up nose.

Which Change do you believe will capture 51% of the vote (in America)?

Though demonstrably true, Edwards personal, extra-curricular sex life was, during this entire period, ajudged to fall outside (i.e. "below") the standards and baliwick of "Journalism".

Conversely, the demure accusation that Governor Sarah Palin's new baby had - by way of a monstrous deceit - been borne by her own daughter went from Left Wing Blog to CNN Prime Time in hours.

CAMPAIGN BY THE NUMBERS

As this fight heads into the final 62 days, consider two sets of numbers (both previously presented here):

1. SIZE MATTERS.

In 40 years, no Dem has emerged from his convention with a Poll Bounce smaller than 16 points (and as high as 30).

Obama's, at 8, is half the smallest-ever...hence Obama has set a modern record for post-convention bounce, DOWNWARD.

2. NOT LIBERAL

The most recent reputable national polling on the fundamental political attitudes of American voters asks them "Do you consider yourself Somewhat or Very Liberal, Somewhat or Very Conservative, or Moderate?"

Result:
"Moderate" 2%
"Liberal" 34%
"Conservative" 62%

U.S. VOTERS, SELF-DESCRIBED "CONSERVATIVE" BY 2-1.

(This is why the Dem argument "more people are registering as Dems than as Repubs" is virtually insignificant.)

The Palin Baby News will not hurt McCain ticket - especially if, as reported this p.m., the McCain campaign had advance knowledge of the pregnancy, and chose Sarah Palin despite this blemish.

Palin's decision to have her Down's Syndrome child combined with the Palin daughter's decision to marry her boyfriend and have this child far outweighs the "moral outrage" on the part of a very few religious zealots.

Plus: a high school senior couple marrying - and even having a child - is not a rarity in much of Alaska - indeed, in much of "fly-over country".

Dems will overplay this and suffer backlash.

Gov Palin may yet cause McCain to regret this choice...but not today.

1. MEDIA: Is there really anything TV, esp Cable TV, loves More, esp on a low-viewership holiday weekend, than the prospect of extraordinary WEATHER?

Lucy Liu just out of the shower doesn't look as good to me as that swirling hurricane eye graphic does to MSNBC.

And, as is so often the case, this one appears a Bust.
So far (as of Monday morning) it is - HOLD ON -----
WINDY AND RAINY IN NEW ORLEANS!!! YIKES!!

The coverage - esp on MSNBC - is ludicrous: Anchor David Shuster (to reporter on scene) "Are you seeing any debris?" "YES! I SEE SOME GARBAGE CANS BLOWING INTO THE STREET! AND A PIECE OF CLOTH RIPPED OFF A SIGN!!!! (This dialogue actually occurred 8:30a Monday)

It is hilarious watching cable - esp MSNBC - struggle to make a rainy day into A KILLER HURRICANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2. Dems v Repubs:

New Orleans is totally evacuated and organized chiefly because a REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR is in (competent) charge this time, as opposed to Democrat BOO-HOO BLANCO.

Idiot Mayor Ray Nagin (who was all over Ntl TV predicting a "Category Five Storm of the Century") has someone to follow, as he is incapable of leading anything. If this imbecile had evacuated his citizens last time, he would have saved thousands of lives----and NOBODY IS HOLDING HIM THE LEAST BIT RESPONSIBLE FOR IT, not even a mention.

Mayor Nagin's warning, flashed around the world (I heard it on BBC from London) included the statesman-like admonition to New Orleans' residents that they "GET THEIR BUTTS OUT OF HERE".
This, I know, is cute, down-home, "keeping it real" to some.
To civilized persons, such language by a public official under these circumstances is compelling evidence of the degradation of American politics in general, and the fact Ray "Duh" Nagin is an ill-bred moron in particular.

3. Repub Convention

By greatly curtailing convention activities Monday, the Repubs will score points for demonstrating respectful deference to prospective "Victims of Gustav" (i.e. several people will get wet shoes)....and deftly get out of having Bush & Cheney appear at/associated with the convention and the McCain ticket - the one thing Dems most needed to have come out of Minnea-noplace.

4. Hurricane Sarah

You want MAJOR STORM?
SARAH PALIN IS A MAJOR STORM: HURRICANE SARAH!
There will almost certainly be major damage from Hurricane Sarah - damage to Obama.

And this kiss-of-death political relationship could not but be underscored and magnified by President Bush and VP Cheney scheduled appearances at the Republican Ntl Convention.

Damning Dilemma for the republicans: you can't live (i.e. win) with Bush & Cheney, but neither can you live without (i.e. disinvite) them at this week's national convention.

This Meteorlogical Marvel strikes with timing such that the Republicans certainly cannot safely indulge in the usual silly convention conventions, right?

Now, the one thing John McCain needed but couldn't have openly wished for (and could never have attempted to pull off) - both Bush & Cheney Not appearing at the RNC - is going to happen...instead a touchy-feely tribute to the hurricane victims...and the McCain and the Republian Party will look good and humane and hurricane-sensitive in the bargain!

And thus does John McCain, his new running mate, and his party get to present to the nation the face they party they Wish to send - not the one the apperance of Bush & Cheney would box them into sending.

Any weeping being done by Republican Strategists over the loss of Bush & Cheney is Louisanna-specific: CROCODILE TEARS!

The most compelling evidence John McCain's choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin greatly worries Democrats is observing various members of the liberal news media go totally over the edge.

I don't mean merely transparently and grotesquely biased - we see that every day, most especially on MSNBC: Mika Brezhinski (obvioulsy the dumbest human being ever to appear on television, including animal stories), Chris Matthews and the undisputed king of cable TV whackos, Keith Olberwellian have long-abandoned any pretense of objectivity, professional bearing, fairness and, with it, Journalism.

No, I mean stark, raving mad. I mean when like watching a car wreck. Like you can't believe what you've just seen.

Such was the case last evening (Friday Aug 29) when on MSNBC Chris Matthews gave Olberman a real run for the Joe McCarthy/Howard Beal award by becoming literally apoplectic at the news of Sarah Palin.

Viewers must earnestly have thought Matthews was almost surely suffering a stroke: his eyes were poppping out of his fat head, his face was not just red but impurpled, spittle was forming in the corners of his mouth, and there wasn't a trace of irony or humor in his vindictive tirade.

I mean, I know Matthews has just said "to hell with my critics" (for admitting to his being totally in the bag for Obama)...but Chris Matthews acted like a crazy man.

Then it got worse (i.e. Really Good).

After wildly screeching his objections to Sarah Palins resume, John McCain's nefarious motives and the general evilness of Republicans, Matthews spewed at his GUEST AND COLLEAGUE (and a man superior to Matthews in terms of intellect, expertise, poliical knowledge and, now obviously, breeding) Pat Buchanan the single most ugly, personal, insulting attack on another person I have ever witnessed on television. (And I am a veteran TV talking head, having made hundreds of appearances with friend and mostly foe, mostly on MSNBC.)

The thesis, as it were, of Matthews' rant was "how is it POSSIBLE someone could be even CONSIDERED for high office if she had once SUPPORTED PAT BUCHANAN?!" (Full disclosure: I workred for Pat Buchanan off and on for years, including his Presidential campaigns.)

Matthews, glowering at an incredulous Buchanan - who could clearly see the host had vacated his faculties - said "YOU MEAN SARAH PALIN COULD BE PICKED EVEN AFTER SUPPORTING THE WORST OF PAT BUCHANAN?!" (A reference to PB's controversial and magnificent convention speech.) This to Mr. Buchanan's face - again, a day-to-day MSNBC colleague, respected author, political figure and former candidate for President of the United States.

Matthews' seizure continued for the entirety of the show. When at the end Pat Buchanan asserted that Sarah Palin's pro-life postion would be a political asset in many areas of the country (this issue and statement seeming to drive Matthews to a glorious new level of screaming, wild-eyed, foaming madness) the host responded like a troubled child "OH YEAH?! YOU JUST GO AND TRY THAT UP WHERE I LIVE AND SEE WHERE IT GETS YOU!"

Maybe poor Chris - whom I've met, and whose work I once admired - simply cannot withstand the mental strain of being dominated and punched around like a skinny cousin on-air by the paranoid bully Olberman.

But let the record show - and the timeless video prove - that on Friday night, August 29, 7-8 p.m., with his hideously inappropriate and ugly personal attack on a colleague, Chris Matthews achieved the truly impressive: he sunk to the lowest level of any host in cable television history.

Perfect for who Chris Matthews - and MSBNC - has become.

AS PREDICTED IN THIS SPACE, AND ON THE AIR:

"The political physics of McCain's VP choice require he use it to galvanize his conservative/Republican base."

"...but I do not believe he wants to pick Mit Romney."

Sara Pallin is a very risky choice.
She cannot be seriously considered qualified to be Commander-in-Chief...and thus reomves totally the Inexperience attack v. Obama. Could that cost McCain the election?
Will she make rookie mistakes in the national campaign/media that doom McCain's credibility and electability?

The one prospective upside is that Pallin's conservative beliefs will galvanize the Repub base fr McCain-----and maybe, maybe, attract some Ind and even a few Dem women alienated by the Hilary disappointment?

This is the biggest, most dynamic VP choice in modern American history.

THE QUESTION IS WHETHER PALLIN WILL HELP McCAIN WIN.

Is it Mitt Romney?
I hope so, and if you don't want President Obama, you'd better hope so, too - because if McCain does not choose Mitt, McCain loses.

All the political physics dictate the Romney choice.
I have said all along that I was not alone in my position that I will vote for McCain Only if Mitt is his running mate.
And now, confirmation of how unalone I am: internal McCain polling shows that of all people he is considering for VP, Mitt Romney attracts the most votes.
In fact the polling shows a McCain ticket including Romney makes ONE OUT OF FIVE VOTERS MORE LIKELY TO VOTE FOR McCAIN - ACROSS PARTY LINES!

Thus there is every compelling political reason (not to mention the future of the Republican party) to pick Mitt - but most compelling of all, MITT GETS YOU ELECTED.

BUT.....BUT....I don't trust McCain's political judgement, and I know his political

I believe McCain is thin-skinned and hasn't forgiven Mitt for challenging him during he primary. McCain is a liberal and wants another liberal on the ticket - like Lieberman!
A big part of my instinct - and McCain's words in the past few days - discourage me in believing it is Mitt. I dearly hope I am wrong.
A bi part of me knows McCain wants to produce an 'out-of-the-box' choice - like a woman, maybe even pro-choice woman.

P.S. In observing how Obama hurt himself by not merely failing to pick Hillary, but by being seen as treatung her disrespectfully, thus alienating/angering her suporters?
Well, Mitt Romney has been all over the map and out in Denver this week - right up until last night - defending John McCain on TV and elsewhere, really putting himself on the line for McCain.
Now, if McCain knows he isn't going to choose Romney, you would think he'd have a staff member place a telephone call - out of profesional courtesy and common decency - telling Mitt "hey, we appreciate what you are doing...but don't do it for us, if you know what we mean."
This way, if Mitt is not picked, at least he doesn't look bad, soldiering out there for McCain until the 11th hour, only to have someone else chosen.

Thus, if it isn't Mitt, McCain will lose millions of votes for political reasons - and millions more because we Romney suporters will be offended by how Mitt was treated at the end.

That said: I am counting on John McCain's wanting to win.
That requires picking a winner, someone who gets you the win: Mitt Romney.

Thus far, the Only universal theme of this convention is the complaint by Dems that the convention is a mess without a message.

I can now, after only two days, safely declare the Democrat Ntl Convention a failure, a total flop.

How?
Why?

Because the purpose of the convention is (was) singular: GET PEOPLE WHO WEREN'T VOTING FOR OBAMA TO VOTE FOR OBAMA.

Because night two was great for Hillary Clinton, but a zero for Obama.

Because when this collection of left wing freaks - whose major mode of transportation is obviously the short bus with wire-covered windows - gets flushed out of Denver Friday, the only things people will be talking about will be
(1) Hillary Clinton's speech
(2) Bill Clinton's speech
(3) How many Hillary voters won't vote for Obama
(4) McCain's VP pick.

Obama's speech (how I hope there is a tornado) tomorrow evening will be another Berlin Rock Show, but he already has celebrity.
What he needs is votes.
White working class votes in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, et. al.
And Thursday's Obama Rock Concert may excite the crowd in the stadium in Denver - but it won't win votes in the mid-west.

Virtually All news media got this wrong: the False premise is that Hillary's task last night at the DNC was to "create unity".
As if!
Hillary Clinton makes a speech without a selfish agenda like Bill Clinton isn't dating.
Hillary's actual task was to show off, make Dems think "we could have has her" and otherwise, along with her first-elected-President-in-the-history-of-the-USA-to-be-impeached husband who speaks tonight, to overshadow the party's candidate.
Hillary as up on that stage to Feign unity, while seeking the best location to place the stiletto in Obama's back, as soon as possible, while keeping her fat fingerprints off of it - and every other under-the-radar effort to sabotage Obama.

In keeping with this agenda, Hillary's speech as balanced: she mentioned the name Barack 2 times - balanced by 319 mentions of the personal pronouns "I" and "Me".

Hilary's style was, as usual, a tasteful, appealing hybrid of first wife PMS and Mussolini.

The media all say Hillary has "thrown her full weight behind Obama's candidacy". If that's true, Obama needs the Jaws of Life right about now.
In fact, Clinton's withdrawal from the campaign has caused the bottom (a Huge bottom) to drop out of the international pantsuit market.

Hillary scored last night - for Hillary.
If you expected anything else, you don't know Hillary - and/or weren't listening to me yesterday.

That staged musical remake last night of "OBAM-OKLAHOMA!" was very well-produced, and totally phony. Nice script, Michelle, but we saw the original - we know how you really feel, about us, about your country.

We have seen this act before: then it was known as "Angela Davis".

The music was great, the lighting and make-up were fine - though there is still utterly no evidence to support every television anchor's breathless assertion that you are "gorgeous" - but when the act was over and you took your bow (wow), the facts are the facts: your husband's and your own beliefs and values are Unamerican and dangerous.

Thoughtful, patriotic people of both parties will write a review of your convention performance that says "a proud, monumental American moment - the first prospective African-American first lady"....but one who is not proud of her country. Who thought anyone could make us long for Hillary's patriotism?

For this, I - and, perhaps, you - have been universally scorned. Various national media have quoted my calling Hillary Clinton a Bitch as proof that I am neither a serious political nor media commentator, but am surely an awful human being.

So, gee, imagine my delight (and absolutely zero surprise) when I read this morning the respected Roger Simon's (Politico.com) history of the Hillary Clinton Campaign. Fascinating stuff - including the news that "top Clinton campaign staffers" regularly referred to Hillary as A Bitch.

In fact, they adopted the unofficial campaign slogan "maybe she's a bitch because she's so competent!" True story.

Gotta go now - running out to buy the Boston Globe (et. al.), read my e-mail from NPR (et. al.), so I can see their apologies...and of course their stories damning the Top Clinton Staffers, her closest day-to-day associates, for regularly calling Hillary, as I always have, and do, A Bitch.

And slapped was Hillary: YO-BAMA NEVER EVEN CONSIDERED CLINTON...AND HIS CAMPAIGN TOLD EVERYBODY SHE WAS NEVER CONSIDERED!

How can we assume this plays with Hillary's dedicated brigadiers?

I assume they will be angry. Angry enough to jump ship, i.e. not vote for McCain, but take a walk, stay home on election day. Maybe even angry enough to make a nationally-televised fuss at the Dem convention?

Yo-Bama needs Hillary's supporters. And so he slapped her and them.

Yes, I nailed the BIDEN pick (last night with Michele McPhee, Friday a.m. on Imus, Thursday - one day prior to the NY Times - on this blog site, not to mention for the past several weeks on radio) AND the fact that Obama would leak it to NBC NEWS, prior to the great "insider text/e-mails" - to capture that network's huge Friday night Oylmpic audience.

In any case, if we've been together for a while, this is no surprise to you.

Here's the Biden Bottom Line:

Plus Side: Tough, smart, Irish-Catholic guy with honest working-class roots (as astutely christined by pal/colleague Michele McPhee "a political Tim Russert"), who may be the most experienced foreign policy member of US Gov't. Wicked good campaigner. Good personal story. Second-best (next to H Clinton) choice for Yo-Bama - but a very strong one. Would be a strong Vice President.

Down Side: BY CHOOSING BIDEN (for his foreign policy experience), OBAMA HAS JUST VALIDATED THAT HE IS UNQUALIFIED HIMSELF TO BE PRESIDENT (i.e. "I don't know foreign policy, so I have hired a consultant who does.").

SORRY - ONE DOES NOT, CAN NOT, DELEGATE THE JOB OF COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF----WE VOTE FOR A PRESIDENT, NOT HIS CONSULTANT.

P.S. Joe Biden stood next to Yo-Bama just weeks ago and said "I stand by my statement that Obama is not ready to be President of the United States."

ALSO: To Yo-Bama's left-wing and younger (i.e. most rabid) core supporters, Joe Biden - 30 years an establishment politician in Wash DC - IS THE OPPOSITE OF "CHANGE".

The Media, of course, will extend to Biden the customary non-adversarial fellatio...BUT BIDEN (his record, his statements while campaigning v. Obama, his soon-to-be-many-more gaffes) WILL GIVE MCcAIN PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITIES TO ATTACK THE DEM TICKET.

Okay - as presumably we shall know tomorrow morning the identity of Yo-Bama's VP pick, here's a presumably final thought on the matter of the moment:

To reiterate: Were I advising Yo-Bama THERE IS NO QUESTION THE BEST CHOICE IS HILLARY CLINTON.
In my professional opinion, choosing Hillary blows the campaign open for Yo-Bama and leaves McCain in the dust.
I appreciate - better than most - the profound downsides of a Clinton(s) as an actual Vice President.
But as a CANDIDATE, she surpasses everybody in the potential to help elect Obama, Period.
But, as I say, I am virtually alone in believing this. So say it isn't Hillary...

Then it must be Biden.

Or not.

In any case, here's the wild (i.e. brilliant) guess that motivates my perhaps final blog for this, my final summer vacation day of 2008:

My guess is this: if Yo-Bama breaks his VP story tonight, I predict One Television Network will scoop all the others.

I predict if the story breaks tonight, NBC News (and/or MSNBC) will first breal the story.

Know why?

If Yo-Obama is waiting for Friday night - normally the death valley of the weekly news cycle (given the choice, one announces only one's indictment on a Friday evening, as nobody is watching) - it is because of the OLYPMICS.....as in a huge Friday night, late August, vacation, stay-at-home, TV audience.

There is only One Thing we we will be watching: THE OLYMPICS.

Thus: my theory is that if the story breaks tonight, NBC will first have it....BECAUSE OBAMA CUT A DEAL WITH THEM TO HAVE IT FIRST, TO REACH THEIR HUGE OLYMPICS TV AUDIENCE.

Am I nuts?
Quite possibly.

But - if NBC first has this YoBama VP story - PLEASE RECALL WHERE YOU HEARD IT FIRST.

Check in tomorrow morning, and throughout the weekend will you?

WAITING FOR BARACK GODOT

On the Campaign...

As we wait on Yo-Bama to announce his #2, two late names have suddenly been floated: Conggressman Chet Baker of Texas, and former General Wesley Clark.

On Clark, I'd say No. He Does offer military credentials - a form of foreign policy credentials...but not the same thing and, being military in nature, not wildy popular among the radical left-wing base of Yo-Bama's party. Also: Clark is not a practiced politician, and has demonstrated a propensity for impolitic and just plain stupid remarks. Clark is not a crazy pick....but I am guessing he's not it.

As for Congressman Baker....Very Interesting.
The obvious response to him is WHO?! ------but wait: Baker is Nancy (aka "Bella" Pelosi's favorite. She recently named him on national TV, actually saying she 'Hoped he'd be the VP nominee".

So what?
Here's what: remember how Obama clinched the Dem race when he was fighting tooth and nail with Hillary? When he seemed like he was sinking? What saved him?
Answer: the perfectly-timed, leaked announcements by Dem SuperDelagates that they were going with Obama. That saved his bacon.

And who controls the Dem SuperDelagates?
Yes, Bella Pelosi.

So, what Peolsi wants - VP wise - Pelosi gets?
Not a lock...but why else would she go out in front on national TV with Baker's name - a total unknown?

Was the (i.e. her) VP fix in the moment Pelosi swung the Supers for Obama?
Maybe, maybe not.

But again, I am going to guess No.
I don't think even the heavy hand of Pelosi/Dem party leaders can persuade Obama he can win with an unknown - even if he might carry elector-rich Texas.

The smartest best for Yo-Bama remains Hillary, though I know I am alone on that one.
The next-smartest is Joe Biden. Biden would, on balance, be a winner for Obama.
I just don't know if Obama agreees.

On the Campaign...

Obama has chosen his VP running mate; we are merely waiting for it to leak to the media.

Both candidates need to fix major shortcomings with their VP picks.
Yo-Bama needs someone to give him Foreign Policy Chops. If he has picked an empty suit as light as himself, he has squandered his opportunity and maybe his chances.

As the New York Times writes today (as I wrote yesterday, and previewed several weeks ago on-the-air), Delaware Senator Joe Biden is the only prominent candidate who fills this bill.

And because he does, Obama foes (like Me), ought to fear Biden: he is tough, accomplished, and has more foreign policy experience than any other five people in politics.

Yes, he is a liberal...but doesn't really play like one.
And, Yes, he has a long history of foot-in-mouth disease, including at least one infamous case of plagarism that caused him to quit his first Pres campaign...but the media will love him and give him a clean slate.

Next only to Hillary Clinton, Biden could help turn Obama's campaign around.

Let's hope Yo-Bama has not shown the political acumen to have picked Joe Biden.

As to Obama's VP choice:

Just as McCain is truly boxed by having to choose a running mate who will shore up his weak flank (in his case, the conservative base) - meaning Mitt Romney - so too is Yo-Bama boxed: he is kidding himself if he thinks he has the luxury of a left-wing soul mate. He does not.

Yo-Bama needs to protect his weak flank (i.e. Zero Foreign Policy Experience) by choosing a runnig mate who loans him some international chops.

I cannot tell you how a communist thinks (ask my buddies Jim and/or Marjory ) - but I can tell you what this commie Ought To Do: Joe Biden.

Among the various fools being publicly considered (excepting H Clinton, who is Satan, but no fool - and who would put Obama over the top), only Joe Biden gives Yo-Bama this Foreign Policy boost.

BIDEN GIVES OBMAMA VITAL FOREIGN POLICY CREDENTIALS.

Thus, other than H Clinton, only Biden worries me.

On July 31, I wrote in this space that I do not believe Hillary Clinton is politically deceased until I see the body (brutally unappetizing though that thought is).

And the current under-performance of the Yo-Bama campaign might force him to produce that body, live, next to him, holding hands aloft as running mates next week.

Yes, HRC as a VP would be a colossal problem for YO-Bama.
But Yo-Bama may have topped out - especially among white voters - creating a need to break this thing wide open.

And nothing is as wide as Hillary.

Who else would make this ticket guaranteed Page One news every day until Nov?

Would HRC alienate Independents, some Dems, and energize Repubs?
Yes.
But the blockbuster surprise announcement, Clinton's presence on the ticket, and of course the media orgy accompanying it could be the Only pick that would blow this thing open for Yo-Bama.

He doesn't want her on the ticket. He certainly doesn't want her in the White House. He doesn't want to use a food-taster for 4 or 8 years. He doesn't want to suffer Bill.

But Yo-Bama Does want to win.
Badly enough that he could still put fatso on the ticket.

I know, I know...it probably won't happen.

But it still could.

No, B+B, not a new S&M sex tape but, rather, a significant political fact from this past week: THE "OBAMA/PARIS HILTON/BRITNEY SPEARS/CELEBRITY" TV COMMERCIAL HURT YOBAMA - AND DAMAGED HIM AS BADLY AS ANY SINGLE TV SPOT HAS IN MODERN U.S. POLITICAL HISTORY.

In my 25+ years in national politics & media, only a few times has there been a TV ad with the potential to change the dynamic of the campaign - and this is one of them.

The reason is that THIS ATACK CUTS TO THE HEART OF OBAMA'S GREATEST VULNERABILITY: HIS INEXPERIENCE, ARROGANCE, CELEBRITY.

Of the voters who do not like or have doubts about Obama, this ad hits the sweet spot of their anxities about him. This ad has the result of being clever, visually compelling, and having that precious "AH HA!" quality, whereby viewers say "EXACTLY!"

This ad - and general line of attack - places into accessible words and pictures the essence of the most effective criticism of Obama.

And it hurt, and it shows: The Obama forces are out in full-force on the weekend talk shows damning the ad as "racist". But the McCain forces are fighting back, and effectively.

Because this ad/tactic worked, expect to see a lot more of it, starting right now.

McCAIN EVIDENTLY HAS RECOGNIZED THAT HE CAN WIN THIS FIGHT ONLY BY CREATING SERIOUS DOUBTS ABOUT OBAMA.

IF HE DRIVES UP OBAMA'S NEGATIVES, HE CAN WIN.

THESE NEXT FEW PRE-DEM-CONVENTION WEEKS WILL BE CRUCIAL TO McCAIN'S ATTACK STRATEGY.

The current "controversial" - and "racist" - McCain campaign television commercial criticizing YObama as an international celebrity but empty suit, a bimbo, Is No Mistake.

While nobody was paying much attention, the McCain campaign has recruited some key new players, all of whom come straight out of the Karl Rove School of Attack.

Plus: the (correct) thinking at the top of the McCain campaign is now that this campaign is REFERENDUM ON YOBAMA - nothing more, nothing less:
McCAIN CAN WIN THIS CAMPAIGN ONLY BY DRIVING UP YOBAMA'S NEGATIVES.

Thus, so long as this current McCain braintrust remains in control, expect to see a FAR MORE AGGRESSIVE TONE AND PLAN OF ATTACK.

As such, there is Hope - hope that at least 51% of American voters will learn enough about Yobama's nauseating beliefs/values/associations/inexperience
that he can be defeated.

N.B. There is a prospective danger in this strategy: Undecided Voters (moderate Repubs, Independents) are put-off by the fear of being called, or associated with, a "racist"...this is why the Obama campaign will respond to every criticism with charges that McCain is Playing The Race Card. Of course it is Yobama who has played the Race Card since day one - but the media whores, playing Monica Lewinsky to Yobama's Clinton will continue to validate anything Yobama claims. Bottom line: McCAIN MUST ATTACK, BUT BE CAREFUL TO DODGE THE "RACISM" CHARGE - lest he alienate the swing voters he needs to win.

McCAIN CANNOT WIN THIS RACE - BUT McCAIN CAN STILL CAUSE YOBAMA TO LOSE IT.

Okay, color me cynical, but...I, too Have A Dream. A Nightmare.
YObama sees his invincibility slipping, McCain rising.
He continues to totally ignore Hillary Clinton and, as a result, the entire media ignores her to. She can't get arrested, a ghost.
Finally, we hear YObama asks Clinton to speak at the 2nd night of the Dem Convention, and the media - today - jumps all over this as a signal she will Not be his running mate (VPs never speak 2nd night). No, she is speaking to commemorate the anniversary of women's sufferage.
I don't believe it.
Considering the nature and magnitude of the anger and alienation Obama is causing among women who support Clinton by his treatment of Hillary (i.e. treating her like a dead person), he must do Something to mollify them, right?

I BELIEVE THERE IS A STRONG CHANCE THAT HILLARY HAS ALREADY AGREED TO BE YOBAMA'S RUNNING MATE----AND THAT YOBAMA WILL DROP A BLOCKBUSTER ANNOUNCEMENT, BLOWING McCAIN'S CAMPAIGN OUT OF THE WATER (and it would).

Relieved because you and I and my family and yours and my country and the civilized world are at war with Islamic Jihadists, and my prospective President has absolutely zero experience with international relations, terrorism or military matters, Barack Hussein Obama is this week playing soldier and statesman. Democrat Obama is dabbling in Terror Tourism, flirting with disaster, dancing with doom, by taking a six day summer vacation to visit war zones he cannot locate on a map, never mind command and control. All better, right?

GREAT NEWS FOR OBAMA

The first genuinely significant - perhaps profound - signal of where this presidential election is headed since Barack Hussein Obama became the Democrat presumptive nominee is in, and it is (unfortunately) great news for liberals: a substantial portion of Hillary Clinton's base - older white women - have swung to Obama.

Because of this, the early assembly of the U.S. Electoral Map places Ohio and Pennsylvania leaning Obama. Notably, both are states (a) where Clinton beat him badly (b) that McCain cannot win without.

This is the worst possible news for McCain (not to mention Republicans). White working class voters - the crown jewel of '08 swing voter groups - abandoned Obama in the Democrat primaries, but appear here in the early moments of the two-candidate field to be gravitating toward him. He can't win without them, and neither can McCain.

Any discussion of this race begins and ends with that Electoral Map, which for one candidate will cobble together at least 270 votes. The traditional map - by which we calculated and decided the last several presidencies - favors McCain; but Demography is Destiny: if the movement to Obama of these and other of Hillary Clinton's base voters is real and continues, Obama will re-write and dominate that map, and will become President of the United States.

I wish I had better news.

I have been engaged in national politics/media for 25 years. There is nothing in my experience or the primary numbers or what we know of Obama - nothing - that suggests he can win a national election.

Then again, The Patriots couldn't lose the Superbowl.

IF the horrible were to happen (i.e. President Obama) Here are 10 Things that would have to occur:

1. The students/young voter turn out is huge, historically unprecedented.
2. African-American voters (same as above).
3. Conservatives, alienated by McCain, stay home on election day.
4. McCain runs "honorable" campaign, refusing to criticize Obama's politics.
5. The media referees the rules such that McCain is evil, Obama a saint.
6. There is a new "electoral map", whereby a Democrat can win without white, blue collar voters.
7. Clinton primary voters give in and turn out for Obama.
8. Independents break big for Obama.
9. Obama actually does pulls some Republican votes.
10. The Libertarian Presidential Candidate (Yes, there will be one) draws a tiny number of votes...but just enough to make a difference in a close race.

That is, A Perfect Storm of highly unlikely, unprecedented events - nothing less than a profound, historical sea change of American culture and politics - all combining to elect Obama.

Obama is Unelectable.
But the Patriots couldn't lose to the Giants.

According to the establishment media OF COURSE Hillary Clinton is wining in "Hee Haw" country! They're all stupid! All backwards! Own guns! Believe in God!

WHY IT MUST BE MITT

Historically and practically, a Presidential candidate chooses a running mate based on how many EXTRA votes that partner will attract.

John McCain hasn't that luxury.

Perhaps the single most overlooked - or just plain not grasped - factor in McCain's choice of VP is this: His problem is not how many EXTRA votes his runing mate might draw - it is HOW McCAIN GETS CONSERVATIVES TO VOTE FOR HIM AT ALL.

The conservative base of the Republican party is angry.
Angry with McCain, angry with his liberal record on taxes, illegal immigration, free speech, judges, etc.
Angry that their only choice on November 4th is between a Communist (the Democrat) and a Liberal (McCain).
And, as a result, many of them - of whom I am one - will not personally vote for McCain.

...unless McCain pickes Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney gives us a conservative on the ticket and, plausibly, in the White House in the not-distant future, maybe for 8 years.
Mitt Romney would define, rebuild and support the Republican party - and Republican Principles.
Mitt Romney would give us a reason to hold our noses with only one hand, and vote for McCain with the other.
Mitt Romney would give the coservative base hope - and bring us to the polling place.

John McCain can stop worrying right now about which fresh new face he can use to go out and win brand new Republican voters, and start worrying about getting Mitt Romney on the ticket...just so he can climb out of the hole in which he begins and get himself up to Zero.

McCain should win this thing.
But his biggest worry is not Obama.
It is Me and You.

No Mitt, No Conservatives.
No Conservatives, No President McCain.

That is why it must be Mitt.

SCENARIO ONE (drops out prior to convention):

As recorded here several weeks ago, H Clinton will stay in long enough (as many primaries as she can win/pain inflict on opponent) to Drive The Best Deal She Can...and that means creating maximum leverage, cutting the deal(s), then dropping out.
In this circumstance, what does Satan want?

That may mean the Vice President slot on the Obama ticket.
The Senate Majority Leadership.
"Promised" 2012 Dem nomination.
Retirement of her current campaign debt (ca. $20Million) - for she will be Personally liable.
A seat on the U.S. Supreme Court for herself - and/or Impeached Bill.
Influence as to choice of VP and/or Cabinet Members (her staff, friends).
And/or All Other Selfish Things.

SCENARIO TWO (goes to convention) :

Satan Stays In.
Because she believes
she can win enough remaining primaries to change momentum/perception.
She believes there is enough dirt on Obama to end his campaign.
She has dirt on Obama with which she plans to end his campaign.
She believes she can loose the Dogs of Political War (read: genius convention rules advisor Harold Ickes) on Obama at party convention in form of rules and credentials chalenges.
She believes she can insist on seating Florida and Michigan currently-disallowed delegates, thereby giving her a major boost.
Because she is honestly the biggest witch who ever lived and, if she can't have the nomination, she will burn it down.
And because she believes if she can help Obama lose in 2008, she can be President in 2012.

Scenario #1 requires enormous guts, determination and the soul of a contract killer.
Scenario #2 requires shamelessness possessed only by a sociopath.

Either way, no problem!

And, either way, Obama is badly damaged heading into general election.

OBAMA'S CHICK CHALLENGE

Other than Hillary Clinton herself, guess who may be the biggest booster of the notion she stay in the race as long as she wants?

Barack Hussein Obama.

There is on the campaign trail a prominent school of thought - one to which I subscribe - that Mrs. Clinton's campaign is now primarily powered, and kept even marginally serious, by tens of millions of white women supporters...who want her to stay in this on her (their) terms.

Refusing to be told to sit down and shut up by a bunch of older, overweight, relgious, white men named Chuck may now be Clinton's most potent campaign agenda.

To the extent her quitting soon would appear Clinton was dropping out before she felt like it, because she was being bullied by the big boys, could anger Clinton's female base and alienate them from the Obama ticket.

This, I believe, explains Obama's sudden graciousness and flexibility toward Mrs. Clinton's withdrawl saying, in essence, she has earned the right to set her own timetable.

If Obama truly believes he has this won - and he ought to, because he does - it does not serve his purpose to appear to be rushing Mrs. Clinton, whose most ardent supporters he desperately needs to show up for him, out the door prematurely.

This creates a Chick Challenge in November Obama just doesn't need and can mostly avoid.

Thus, don't expect to hear much more from the Obama campaign - at least from the candidate himself - that "it is over for Clinton and she ought to get out".

Obama can now afford, and it benefits him, to appear graciously patient.

But even noe we can site two Major Media Misses this evening:

(1) Rev Wright Influenced Vote - but which way, based on Race?

MSNBC reports that nearly 50% of both black and white voters regarded Jeremiah Wright as an "important factor" in their vote.

But which way?

We can very safely assume that, to the degree it affects their votes, whites are Negatively affected by Wright's vile remarks.

But how can MSNBC assume the same about African-Americans?

Just days ago, major polls showed - depressingly and outrageously - that 1/3 of black voters were More Likely to vote for Obama after hearing Rev Wright's racist remarks!

So, when we learn blacks and whites were greatly - and equaly - affected by Wright's hate speech, it is sloppy and wrong for MSNBC to assign to blacks and whites the same reaction for the same reasons.

Whites were affected influenced, and therein is an important lesson.
Conversely, blacks may well have been - vis a vis prior evidence - Positively influenced by the same remarks!
Therein, too, is a significant lesson.

And the most important lesson of all is that MSNBC is either (a) too stupid, or, (b) too in-the-tank for the left-wing world-view to notice or mention.

(2) Judges Order Indiana Polls Kept Open

This evening, a judge ordered at least two urban Indiana polling places to stay open - beyond the hours and rules Indiana state law provides.

The impact of this judicial fiat nearly certainly means extra votes in the inner-city (where virtually all recent vote fraud occurs, auspices of the Democrat municipal political machine monopoly)...meaning extra, after-hours African-American votes...meaning bonus Obama votes.

At 8:00 p.m., Clinton was leading Obama in Indiana 61-39%, a huge lead; after the judges orders to violate law and keep polling places open, Obama closed the 20 point gap in One Hour.

If this were a Republican election, this obvious Judge-Assisted Voter Fraud would be Breaking News.

Why - why? - are there no CNN cameras at these Extended-Hours Obama Vote Factories?

Meanwhile, the Special Late Shopping Votes for Obama pour in, closing the Indiana gap.

Irony of schweet ironies: the voter fraud from which the Clintons so long enjoyed a manufactured advantage, now turns on them.

Hillary Clinton will lose North Carolina today, maybe big.
And, though she may pull out Indiana, I believe she may well lose there.
But, even if she splits, it is over.

I believe that when Democrat voters and Delegates awaken tomorrow morning, the vast majority of them will feel they have given Clinton the chance to compete - but now it Needs To Be Over.

A lot of us have known for some time that Barack Hussein Obama is going to be the Democrat nominee - the difference is that as of Wednesday morning Democrats will be largely united
recognizing that fact. And they will show Clinton the door.

I predict a flood - nay, a tidal wave - of Democrat officials rushing before microphones and cameras to urge "for the good of the party" that Mrs. Clinton scram. Now.

I predict this is the final Tuesday Hillary Clinton will be regarded as seriously competing for the nomination.

Did she fail?

Only short-term.

Clinton's tactical objective has for some time been to damage Obama such that he will lose in November - and she rides to the rescue in 2012. In order to do so, she would have to wound Obama very badly, render him unelectable.

She has.
Obama is unelectable and will lose the general election.

NOTHING.

These polls are a measure of how Barack Hussein Obama is thought of by DEMOCRAT VOTERS ONLY - they are the ones who will first forgive and forget the Rev Wright-Obama love affair.

There remains No Evidence (nor any common sense) suggesting INDEPENDENT and REPUBLICAN voters - most espceically White, Blue Collar voters in key swing states - have forgiven nor forgotten the hateful Wright and Obama's long, close embrace of Wright's twisted dogma.

In terms of this gaudy Democrat Presidential Race, Monday morning and Tuesday morning sure look interesting...but will by Wednesday morning look like - and in fact be - Ancient History.

Here's what we do know right now:

Tomorrow's games - Indiana and North Carolina - are absolutely huge.

The culmulative "wisdom" of the most current polls has Obama winning NC and Clinton winning Indiana by virtually equal margins of circa 5 points. If this occurs, the Dem battle is status quo ante (i.e. same old same old). Both candidates will claim victory; Hillary will hang on, fighting to the last breath/primary, weeks from now.

If, however, we get a plausible surprise - Hoosier Daddy! - that is, Obama captures Indiana in addition to N Carolina, then Clinton won't have a friend in the world, most especially including Democrat Delegates, super or otherwise. The entire central rationale of her candidacy, of her political existence, is swept away in a moment. The public pressure on her to go away - delivered by the Democrat's Biggest Wigs - will be enormous, loud, and nearly universal.

In that case, what makes it harder for Clinton than No Math, No Support, No Chance is that her real long-term strategy becomes nakedly obvious: to burn Obama down so McCain wins so she is the candidate in 2012. At that point, she must quit.

But - wait a minute! - suppose Clinton wins the lottery tomorrow, winning both Indiana AND North Carolina? Obama lose NORTH CAROLINA?!

HOOSIER MOMMY?!

Well, first, Republicans call their physicians and seek medical advice as to what they do with erections lasting longer than four months.

Nextly, to be humane, place a net outside the higher windows of the Democrat National Comittee buliding.

Then, take away from Obama and his supporters their belts and shoe-laces (standard suicide precautions).

Because if Hillary sweeps on Tuesday, you are going to hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth and rending of Democrat garments at every level of the Obama campaign and the Dem party.

Dem Delegates will realize their worst fears: their Dreamboat has morped into a Nightmare, a Loser - one they cannot walk away from without virtually destroying their party.

The worst/best example thus far is his criticism of President John F. His lesson: we musn't ask young African Americans to speak real English (i.e. "ax" is an entirely acceptable equivalent of "ask").

Only amateurs (and Obama apologists, see: Sunday's Meet The Press) believe that anything Wright now says matters at all; the Fact that Wright has re-emerged from under his slimy rock, to provide a pretext for the endless media replay of his vile beliefs/remarks, it a crippling blow to Obama, thus the Democrats, hence a gift to America!

Even Wright's "corrections" - to a somber and ludicrously sympathetic Bill Moyers on PBS - are, per se, making matters worse. The more this imbecile speaks, the more votes Democrats lose! Schweet!

And our old friend "Rev" Al Sharpton gloms onto the (entirely justified) NYC police use-of-deadly-force case to refresh his Race Pimp credentials.
"The racist cops did it!"
How odd, then, that ALL THREE cops who fired their weapons were either Black or Hispanic. Which are the KKK? The African American cops? The Latino cop? Both?

Sensible people (i.e. who hold jobs, pay taxes, are not incarcerated, speak English, etc.) appreciate THE ONLY QUESTION in such circumstances is "Was The First Shot Justified?".
If so, ALL subsequent shots fired were justified. A good shooting.

TEN BIG POLITICAL THINGS I (and, hence, You) KNOW

Do remember where you first heard these points, would you? These are the Big Issues dominating the Presidential Race Rght Now

Have you noticed that...

1. H Clinton's focus on THE ECONOMY (i.e. It's The Economy, Stupid - B Clinton, circa 1992) is trumping, big time, 0-Bama's weak "HOPE" and "CHANGE" rap? I.E. Blue collar white voters are responding greatly more - and greatly more positively - to her Bottom Line Jobs & Family Finances message than his amorphous, new-age babble, which launched his campaign but which is now running on empty. Obama needs a message overhaul. This Week. Now.

2. H Clinton is a (comparatively) Happy Warrior, to which voters always respond well. 0-Bama is behaving like an angry, sourpuss...to which voters also always respond - negatively. Hey, Barack: act like you enjoy this stuff - or you won't have to suffer it much longer.

3. 0-Bama the "Great Unifier" has suddenly become the Great Divider - going from the man who would transcend race to the Race Candidate...which is a Loser.

4. Any/everybody who says "Pennsylvania didn't mean that much/wasn't that much of a boost to Clinton" (i.e. 0-Bama supporters, especially the "objective" "journalists" on Sunday's Meet the "Press") are Whistling Past The Graveyard.

5. Don't look now, but the last time 0-Bama had a victory was FEBRUARY (Wisconsin). PLus: he has failed to win ANY of the country's 10 Most Populous States (incl'd Democrat electoral college must-win venues Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida, Ohio).
This is createing an image of a candidate slip, slip, slipping away. He needs a big, significant win (i.e. WHITE VOTERS) right now. North Carolina & Indiana next Tuesday would do fine.
Or cripple him.

6. Adding to the pressure on 0-Bama to win Indiana is the fact that 1 of 4 Indiana voters live within/watch/listen to Chicago media - making this a "home game" for Obama. Lose here, and it is almost like losing in his native Illinois. And he might well lose here.

7. Because - and only because - of this extraordinary life & death struggle between the two Democrats, Clinton and 0-bama are being forced to Campaign (i.e. Waste Resources) In Several States Democrats Almost Certainly Lose In The General Election!
Were it not for the need to make tactical gains, headlines about beating each other, both Clinton and 0-Bama would surely have taken a pass on states like North Carolina, and many others, which Republicans historically own. A crippling waste of financial and other major resources needed for a successful general election. Schweet!

8. This one hurts.
The by-product of these primaries - however otherwise harmful for the Democrat candidates and their party - is likely to be substantial gains in new registered voters and, just maybe, voter interest and general turn-out.
Here's the consolation: IF young people and minorities actually turn out on Nov 4th to vote in anything like their numbers in the population it will be The First Time. So, chances are it, as historically usual, Won't Happen.
Here's hoping.

9. Watching Meet the dePRESSsed today was yet another fine example of Why The Maninstream Media So Often Get It Wrong.
The presumably "balanced" panel included four painfully transparent Liberal Democrats, and one dot.com correspondent.
The point-of-view expressed (and it was) was openly supportive of the Democrats, and particularly apologist for 0-Bama.
I am here to tell you: THIS is how one gets gets to be a regular guest on network news shows, and reguarlay quoted in the national media - Be Liberal.
(On a personal note: I am especially proud to have for 2o+ years appeared on and been frequently quoted in the most prominent national news media - e.g. CBS, NBC, CNN, ABC, PBS, Fox, MSNBC, CNBC, NPR, Boston Globe, New York Times - written op-ed, On Request! - Washington Post, Time Magazine, Newsweek, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, interviewed in prime time by Tom Brokaw, etc., etc....and NEVER, EVER compromised my libertarian/conservative viewpioint in order to please anyone, other than Myself and You.)

10. African-American political consultant, CNN analyst, former Clinton operative and Dem Super-Delagate Donna Brazille actually said on television Sunday that the reason Rev Wright is being invited to speak before black religious (and other) groups is because black clergy views criticism of his racist remarks "as an attack on the black church"...that criticizing Rev Wright for his incredibly ignorant, fantastic, hateful, racist beliefs is "hurting race relations"!
Get that: the CRITICISM of Rev Wright is hurting race relations!
Stupid, very public remarks like Dem Super-Delegate Brazille's is an additional factor driving a Huge Wedge between Barack (Hussein) 0-Bama and thoughtful voters white, brown, and black.

Suddenly, The Question is not "When will she quit?" but, rather, "Why Can't Obama Close The Deal?". And the difference, now and later, is enormous.

Think of the Democrat Nomination fight like a grown-up - well, older - SATs. Last Tuesday's Pennsylvania Poll-ka didn't change the Math (Obama considerably ahead on delegate points), but it utterly transformed the Verbal section, i.e. how the race is covered by the media, perceived by the voters and, thus, how it influences the decisions of Delegates.

The stage is being set - The Rationale established - for Democrat Delagates to consider backing Clinton on the perceived basis that He Can't Win, She Can.

Either way, it is going to mean a devestating - perhaps mortal - self inflicted wound for the Democrat Party.

Schweet.

This new, Comeback Kid II dynamic will dominate this week's political coverage/conversation, leading up to NORTH CAROLINA and INDIANA - either or both of which might again shake the ground and change the reality of this national contest.

PENNSYLVANIA POLL-KA, LIVE

It is 8:09 and I have just been invited onto my friend/colleague Michelle McPhee's show - to say this: it is right now "too close to call"...and despite the bizarre fact polls have been closed only 9 minutes (are we accustomed to instant gratification, or what?!) I must observe that if Clinton is expecting to overwhelm Obama here (i.e. double digits), she and her supporters must be very anxious and greatly disappointed.

That is: is HRC is/was going to win by 10 pts or more - which indeed she needs in order to change the story line of her slowly sinking campaign - the networks should have been calling this as "an apparent big Hillary win" even by Now.

This would seem - Seem - to indicate that Mrs. Clinton may "win" - but "win" by fewer than 10%. If that is the case, maybe 7-8% will keep her on life-support...but 5% or less = Death.

(Death is defined as EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT ALIVE LINING UP TO DEMAND "FOR THE GOOD OF THE PARTY" SHE WITHDRAW FROM THE RACE IMMEDIATELY.)

HILLARY CAVES

It is over.

Not because Obama had a strikingly weak debate performance, which he surely did: He again refused to strongly denounce Rev Wright. He stammered, wavered, and flopped on the crucial issue of support for Israel.

But these are merely killers in the General Election. As for the Dumocrat Primary, that ended Wednesday night at 8:15 p.m..

At that moment Hillary Clinton yielded to the frankly inevitable: with one answer she signaled surrendur to Brack Hussein Obama.

Clinton was asked the single question affording her the opportunity to make her essential - and only - case, i.e. the same one she has been making behind the scenes to super-deleates: "Obama is unelectable, cannot win."

Clinton was asked, directly: "Can Barack Obama win in November?"

Instead of arguing her case at this crucial moment, Clinton instead replied "Yes."

At that instant, the Clinton argument, the Clinton rationale, hence the Clinton candidacy ended.

It was inevitable, but I did not expect it to happen quite so soon, nor at Clinton's own - seemingly suddenly pacifist - hands.

IF CLINTON CANNOT - OR WILL NOT - ARGUE THE CASE THAT OBAMA IS UNELECTABLE, SHE HAS NO ARGUMENT, PERIOD.

Write it down: with that answer tonight, Hillary Clinton conceded defeat.

Did some big Democrat get to her? (i.e. "Do whatever you want tonight - but if you want any future in this party, Do NOT tear Obama apart.") I don't know.

But the "Obama is unelectable." horse Clinton has been privately riding for weeks wasn't in the stable.

And, as a result, this horse is officially no longer in the running.
